Lake Sherwood consists of two main parts- a gated community of large homes surrounding the lake, as well as various imitation developments in the surrounding hills but not in the actual "Lake Sherwood" development.
The area is almost completely residential, most residents using neighboring Thousand Oaks or Agoura Hills for commercial needs.
Lake Sherwood Details and Information
Location: Three miles south of Thousand Oaks
Origin of Name: The lake is named for the extensive use of the area to film "Robin Hood" in 1922. In 1889, the lake was first called Canterbury Lake and then Lake Mathiessen, after F.W. Mathiessen Jr. who bought it in 1898.
